Developmental Education Services

At Artemis Disability Services, our primary support provision is through Developmental Education. Developmental Education is an NDIS-aligned allied health profession that supports individuals to build capacity in a wide variety of skills relevant to daily living. Participants that we support typically live with autism, intellectual disability and/or global developmental delay, as well as a range of secondary diagnoses. We can assist with functional independence and wellbeing support, as well as preparation for major transitions in life. Some examples of skills we can help to develop include: communication, self-care, functional daily routine independence, regulation, and social participation. Another key benefit of Developmental Educators is that we also work directly with families, caregivers, and other key stakeholders to build capacity in those supporting the individual and ensure consistency of supports, regardless of context.

Artemis primarily focus on provision of supports to children, youth, and young adults from four to twenty years old. As our services are delivered by a Developmental Educator that is also a registered and practicing school teacher, we are optimally positioned to provide support to children and young people throughout their school journey.

Teacher Developmental Educator

Although many registered Developmental Educators have experience delivering supports in schools as therapists or support staff, a key point of difference at Artemis Disability Services is that our Senior Developmental Educator is also a qualified, registered, and practicing Primary School Teacher. Teacher Developmental Educators are uniquely positioned to support success across home, school and community contexts. We are able to translate best-practice educational strategies to home-based supports and simultaneously support our clients’ education settings to deliver supports that are tailored to an individual’s context and needs.

Nature Connection

Connection to nature has a strong correlation with overall wellbeing. Where relevant, Artemis adapt learning to include nature-based elements and reduce reliance on digital technologies for recreation and regulation. We can assist with building nature-based self- and co-regulation skills and develop interest in activities that offer functional replacements for digital recreation, like watching TV. Critically, our nature-based learning also develops pretend play skills which are highly beneficial for promoting social inclusion.
